Website Wonder: Polyvore

Just a quick note to say: if you haven’t had a play on www.polyvore.com yet, don’t wait any longer…  This site is an online image database of fashion products including some of the latest designer pieces.  As you can see, you can then gather and edit these images to create your own inspiration moodboard.  Product info (e.g. price, designer etc) appears when you hover over the items, so if you see something you like, you can easily track it down.  Aces.

Slouchy Tee Sewing Project

I finished this loose-fit stripy tee today and am really happy with the result! I enjoyed the challenge of working with jersey fabric. Using a stretch fabric such as this involves the changing of needles and adjustment of sewing techniques (so that you get the best results for the fabric e.g. no puckering). It was quite tricky matching up the many stripes along the seams but with some careful pinning, it turned out pretty neat. I’m thinking of attempting to make a few more of these t-shirts as they are really wearable.

This kind of slouchy, off the shoulder top is really comfy and perfect for a cosy night in on the sofa! The same fabric was used for my ‘Vintage and Beyond” sewing competition effort which you can see again here.

Upcoming sewing project posts to look out for include:

  • Jazzy leggings
  • Black/blue sparkly cropped tee
  • Bootie style slippers for winter
  • Vintage tea dress upcycle

1940s Blitz Vintage Party Tonight@Attic Bar Bristol

A friend recommended this event which takes place tonight at the central Attic bar in Bristol.

”Step aboard and be taken back in time to our 1940’s Blitz Party! With a dress code of Allied Forces and civilian wartime attire, either bring your own or be transformed by our tailors and barbers.” – fmbristol

Put on by Rolling Stage & VP Productions, this event sounds like great fun!  Wiggle in to a pencil skirt or some military threads and get yourself down there for a free 1940’s hair restyle and live jazz and swing music!

Bestival 2012 My Highlights – Florence and DJ Yoda

Bestival 2012 was blissful.  It was the perfect full stop to one of my best summers and I got to see some of my favourite artists/performers. Lucky enough to get hold of a VIP camping ticket, I stayed in the Yellow boutique ‘wilde copse’ campsite complete with showers, fancy loo’s and a posh nosh breakfast cafe with the tastiest cappuccinos on site!

We missioned down to Southampton straight from work on Friday and hopped on to our ferry (concentrating very hard to ignore the sea sick passenger on top deck!).  We docked, and immediately saw signage to turn off the Sat Nav and trust the yellow info signs.  Great!  Unfortunately I think Rob da Banks peeps may have overestimated the general publics’ ability to follow dotted about instructions as we were not the only festival goers to complete a couple of laps of the island before arriving at the site!!  However, as soon as we were in, it was all plain sailing and I loved every second…

Friday night – Florence and the Machine headlined.  Mainly playing tracks from the album ‘Lungs’, the crowd was mesmerised by the visually and audibly hypnotic performance.  She wore a beautiful flowing green dress which, teamed with her Ivy head garland echoed the wildlife Bestival theme brilliantly.  She was stunning.

The question on everyones lips?: How does she sing, dance, run the length of the stage, play the harp and drums, wear that trip-length dress and do it all with such poise and grace?  Answers on the back of a blog post please folks!

On Saturday, we joined in the fancy dress (obvs gotta get in to that Bestival spirit!) and headed down to the Wagamama stage.  Yes, that’s right – the noodle bar.  We didn’t think we’d read the venue right either!  Our favourite master of 80’s music trickery DJ Yoda wowed the crowd with a mash up of hip hop, 80’s pop and electronic beats all scratched smoothly together to whip the wildlife creatures into a party frenzy!  Because there were so few people (or animals?) at the intimate gathering, the atmosphere was that of a mates house party – see below.

Did anyone else go to Bestival 2012?  I’d love to hear your views!
2013?  I.  Am.  There!

Crop Top 2

The first Vintage summer crop top I made was sold at the Ashton Gate Flea & Vintage market.  Although I was happy to be selling, I loved the first crop top so much that I had to make a few more for myself in different fabrics!  This is a bold printed fabric from textile wholesalers Fabric Land in Bristol.  As before, the cropped vest has a cotton front and jersey back so the fit is adjustable.  The design works with either Vintage or modern Fabric.  If you make one of these I’d love for you to add some pictures as its always a treat to see other peoples work and to see what fabrics you have chosen!

Work in progress: making more variations of the crop top design.

More Decor!

More homely touches.  I try to design or craft most of the cushions/rugs/Artwork etc around the house but sometimes the odd Ikea or High Street home piece sneaks in!  The following pictures show the eclectic collection of artefacts from our home.

Below: Cushion made from Ikea fabric.  Records photographed by moi and printed on to canvas using an online service.

Above: Pimms in the sun optional!
