Dress Update – Royal Purple Fabric Samples

To make sure that the colour and fabric type is just right for the bridesmaid dress that I’m currently making, these fabric samples were collected and presented to the client. The samples were then discussed with the bride-to-be and it was decided that no. 2 on the fabric list (a rich purple coloured crepe) is most suited to the occasion. It’s a great idea to check each design stage with the client to make sure that the finished product is exactly what they want. More dress updates to follow!

Dress Commission – Elegant Deep Purple Bridesmaid dress

My latest client made me giggle when relaying the requests of her sister bride-to-be. The brides instructions were clear: my client has the freedom to wear whichever style of dress she likes, (well, as long as it’s deep purple to fit with the colour scheme) but she must NOT “pull a ‘P Middy'”… P Middy as in Pippa Middleton. As in, don’t look too incredible in your bridesmaid dress and upstage me on my big day!!

We agreed that being told not to do something always makes you want to do it more (!) and also, any dress made by Beautiful Plumage does look beautiful – the clue is in the name… However, one must be respectful when ones sister gets married so we decided to opt for something nicely tailored, knee length and with 3/4 length sleeves. Elegance is key. Here is an image of a similar style. A sleek, fitted dress with wrap over neckline and a wide, obi belt style middle will be just the ticket for the late Sumer wedding.

New Year Dress Commission – Customised Topshop Dress

I was asked to upcycle a plain blue stretch fabric Topshop dress for a client to wear to a 1920’s party this New Years Eve. It took a while to work out how to add the fringing without loosing the stretch (and therefore also the fit and method of getting in and out of the dress!) but the end result was well received and the client looked amazing. After fringing, blue ribbon ties were added at the shoulders. The addition of one of my blue feather headband accessories finalised the flapper girl look.

Don’t worry – the loose cotton and fringing was trimmed before the dress was handed over! Quality Control is a Beautiful Plumage must.

What’s on My Mannequin? Masked-Ball Taffeta Gown

Fabric has been sourced and the design is taking shape for this beautiful masked ball costume. A fabulous deep red taffeta gown with ruffles and draping galore! Pictures to follow but for now here is the initial designers sketch…

Dress Commission: Tailor-made black formal

This gorgeous black number was finished and delivered to it’s new owner on Wednesday. The client is planning to wear it to a Bond themed evening do and I just know that she will look fabulous in it! Pictures from the evening are hopefully on the way but here are a few of the dress being carefully constructed.

Details –

Upper = wrap over top in fine knit black fabric
Lower = fishtail shaped panel pieces in sculpting yet flowing fabric. Side zip.

Dress Commission

Really excited about the latest dress commission; A very swanky full-length black number with wrap top and fishtailed skirt. This bespoke creation is to be worn for a James Bond themed evening and will be made to measure so that it fits my client perfectly. I love creating special occasion attire that feels amazing to wear. The deadline for this dress is next Wednesday and with a fitting booked in for next Monday, I better grab my tailors chalk and get started!
