Found some Mood/Theme boards from previous projects today. I love layering sketches, drawings, fabric samples, prints and mixing textures together to create these inspirational starting points. Laser cutting acrylic was also pretty fun – the triangles and floral shapes were designed and cut out on gold, black and purple plastics.

Graffiti Workshop at Upfest Gallery
Image
This was the result of a 2 hour graffiti workshop I completed at the Upfest Gallery on North Street. It was so much fun! Using a calligraphy cap and paints which were supplied by the gallery we had a play in the sunshine on the walls of the galleries own outside space. Highly recommended! Please visit The Upfest Gallery Website here for details and info on other upcoming events.
Bath Spa Textile Degree Show
Today was a great day for seeing some fantastic textiles work. The quality and creativity of the pieces on show at the Sion hill Bath campus was impressive. Knitted samples, printed wallpapers, structural textiles, home products, 3D pieces and fabrics with layers of enhancing techniques were on display to the public from the 11th – 15th June. The work was both innovative and beautiful. Below are some ideas which really stood out….
Charlotte Raven – Textile Print Artist
Louise Smales-Cresswell – Textile Designer
Laura Osgood – printed textiles for interiors
Megan Shepard – Textile Designer
Calling all Print Designers….
www.Spoonflower.com. Unusual name, excellent concept. This American company allows you to upload a repeat pattern block and in a few easy steps, magically transform it from Photoshop JPEG to full coloured, digital perfection on your doorstep. What’s more, they have a comprehensive range of fabrics to choose from. Organic? No problem. They have various weights and fabric types so everyone from the sewing beginner to the crafting Queen is catered for.
Another bonus is that after you have ordered your Yardage of fabric (or even a £5 sample) you then have the option to sell your print design to other Spoonflower lovers. You earn a percentage from what is ordered which is something I have not come across with any other print manufacturers. Spoonflower also organise regular competitions for themed prints. How exciting!
I’ve been working on garments for the Beautiful Plumage label and have found Spoonflower to be a no-fuss, simplistic way to get a small amount of your very own printed fabric.
If anyone has any recommendations for other textile printers or ideas for new prints for me to design please let me know by commenting below…
